Grizzlebetter Raaf

Grizzlebetter is the protagonist. He is the firstborn son of the queen Grimalda Raaf, a descendant of the great Eah (one of the patriarchs of the trock race). Grizzlbetter is a young trock (600 years old, just come of age), persistent, a dreamer and a nature lover. His appearance makes him stand out from the rest of the trocks – he is smaller, with expressive dark green eyes, agile, with a body made of brownish rocks, here and there covered with moss, golden lichen and small fluorescent mushrooms.

Toramat The Shaman

Toramat is the antagonist. He is the Shaman of the trock kingdom Volcania. He is lanky and stooping. His trock body is made of granite, and his face is long, with staring eyes of rusty agate and a protruding chin. He is energetic, irascible, volatile, sly, and passes off as a traditionalist. Ambitious and jealous, he is annoyed by the queen’s authority. As the main opponent of Grizzlebetter, he hates the Living World and fights it actively. His ambition is to lead the trock community and to dominate the world.

Grimalda Raaf

Grimalda Raaf

The queen of the trock people of Volcania, the great-granddaughter of the great Eah and mother of Grizzlbetter and Grouf. She is a wise, calm and large female trock. She has premonitions of events and a good intuition, and is also an instinctive sorceress able to perform minor magical spells: her gift awakens in critical situations. She has great authority over the trocks.

Grouf Raaf

The younger son of the chief Grimalda Raaf, brother of Grizzlebetter. A massive, strong trock, still under age, almost as tall as his mother. He has a calm temperament, is self-confident, kind-hearted, and likes making rough jokes with his brother. His large face, which has a strong-willed jaw and onyx-coloured eyes, exudes kindness.

Darra

Darra, the helper of the librarian Aleef, is a beautiful and shapely female trock. She is fast, curious and smart, with big emerald green-yellow eyes. She dreams of being able to decode the magic runes of the ancient trock alphabet and to return the old knowledge and the noble trock culture. Grouf and Grizzlebetter fancy Darra.

Aleef

The oldest trock in Volcania and custodian of the old library in the big cave. He is slow, contemplative, with an inclination to bury himself in the ground when he’s been still for a while. His thin body is made of old, pale stones, broken in places and covered with clumps of soil, lichen and brown moss. Only his dark-blue eyes are bright and alive.

Eah

Eah

The most ancient trock, one of the ancestors of the trock race, a participant in the Creation, a founder of the Grimalda clan, and greatgreat-grandfather of Grizzlebetter and Grouf. On reaching maturity Eah buried himself at the bottom of the ocean and merged with the Earth and its ancient consciousness in order to take part in the Creation. He has lost the shape of his humanoid trock’s body and looks more like a misshapen mass of rocks, covered in corals, skeletons of ancient fishes, seaweed and so on. He possesses magical powers.

Chihle

The mighty wolf, formal leader of the Green valley. Chihle is openly suspicious that Grizzlebetter is an accomplice in a conspiracy against the Living World.
